Intro Lesson Teamwork
The 2011 season kicked off with a quick ride around the Genesee Valley Park. But first we talked about goals and expectations, for instance the importance of mutual respect and communication. We also discussed implementing a mentor program for some of our older and more experienced riders to help our younger riders. Cyclopedia works best as a team; we all ride together. To further the sense of group accomplishment we started a “trophy case” this year: the riders will collect a found item to represent each ride.

Word of the Day souvenir (F souvenir to remember) Cyclopedia is about getting in touch with the place you live, with an eye toward building a better future. But one of the best ways to engage yourself is to understand where you come from. Our “trophy case” of souvenirs will remind us of what we’ve accomplished.

Trip
As always, we started from the Club; this time we headed south along Genesee Street to the Genesee Valley Park and did a quick loop to make sure everyone’s bikes were working. We stopped along the way to take photos with our new cameras. Our first souvenir—well, we forgot “to remember”, ironically. But the next day Cappy went back to the bridge at the crossing of the Genesee with the Erie Canal, which is where he had pointed out mugwort growing along the path; he even ate some since it has a pungent flavor similar to sage. Cappy retrieved a sprig of mugwort for the trophy case.

Our riders had a great time using their new cameras. Check out their individual albums below:
